Not getting a consistent indication of new posts.

The problem seems to occur when someone has created a new topic in a forum that had no topics before. After the user visits the forum once, any new topics that follow after that get the "new" indication.

Not sure if this is exactly the same issue or not... I read your description here to be about intermittent performance of a feature, where as I am simply not seeing a feature.

Tried to describe it w/ some screen shots in sg101 2.o:

Thanks!

Updated the thread linked (/topic/18/)...

I wonder if what I was seeing was just an artifact of timing. Meaning, if you've fixed something along the way and it's only working for activity from that point on, and not grandfathered. There were a lot of posts since my last login (a month or so ago), where I'd expect "NEW", but there was none. Now that you've tweaked stuff, I do see "NEW" working as designed. That'd make sense...

  • Priority changed from major to minor

The system only maintains status for 2 weeks, currently. So if you have been gone for a month and come back, everything will be "read". It will then take a few posts before it starts kicking back in again and showing "new" stuff.

The problem I was seeing, and maybe it is related to coming back after a month, is it doesn't seem to exactly work right if you post in empty forums.

I'll keep this open and investigate at a low priority.

Cool. Since I would guess the likelihood of adding more forum categories is near zero, I'd say put a dummy post / welcome post in each and call it a day. Unless root cause is something other than the 2 week caching, you should never see this issue again. Maybe worth a try and closing this ticket... it can always be reopened.

  • Status changed from accepted to closed
  • Resolution set to wontfix

Going to close this now. Since I'm importing old forum posts from SG101 1.0, we aren't going to have any empty forums. There may be a minor problem here still, but at this point there are higher priority things to tackle. This can be re-opened later.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
